Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is an adventure game that was published by Capcom on June 25, 2021. It is a part of the Monster Hunter stories 2, and is available on Windows-based PCs and Nintendo Switch.
In this game, you play the role of the grandchild of a hero of the original game. Your task is to protect the world by building a stable of different creatures. For this purpose, you have to collect and then hatch different eggs. The combat is menu-driven in which different creatures and humans fight with each other.
Even though Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a sequel, we feel that you do not have to have played the previous game in order to understand the characters, tools, and concepts. However, having background knowledge can be advantageous for the player.
The Scenario of the Game
Like most role-playing games, this game uses common methods and tropes. You will find yourself in different places like a desert and forest. Its scenario is built on the common concept that there is a monster in the town, who you have to fight with in order to protect the town and its people.
In the game, you are part of a team that has people who decide to raise their voices and, instead of killing the monsters, become their friends. Each monster is unique and has its own moves, powers, and abilities. You can also channel abilities between different monsters!
It is not a very hard game to get into, and you can still reach higher levels by paying minimal attention. You can send monsters on different journeys while you still play your part of the game. It helps monsters level up, so when you need powerful monsters later in the game, you already have them prepared.
Your character has access to different armours and tools that he/she gets from different characters while fighting them off. You can upgrade those weapons when you have the required accessories.
A Rock-Paper-Scissors Format of Combat
The combat has a rock-paper-scissors format in which you guess the move of your opponent or monster while fighting them off by using your own moves and weapons. You can hit specific parts of the monster by using the options provided by the game.
You also have an accompanying Monster who you can change if you want to. If you trigger combinations during combat, then you can use a certain option to heal your character and the Monster as well.
Summing Up
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin has a clever setup and deserves a large audience. This role-playing game is full of thrills, mysteries, and adventures that can keep you hooked for hours and increase your curiosity with time to experience the whole story. Give it a go!
