If you’re anything like us, you’re probably sick of spending hundreds of dollars on cheap chairs that break after six months and give you back pain. There is yet another possibility, though. Today, we’ll examine the Herman Miller Sayl, a chair that prioritizes comfort and sturdiness.
It’s not difficult to see how this chair got its moniker. Suspension bridges inspired the unusual backrest, which was created by renowned designer Yves Béhar. We know what you’re thinking: “it appears to be quite frail,” correct? Surprisingly, the Herman Miller Sayl delivers more support than the majority of other office chairs available. So, here is a Herman miller Sayl review for you.
Additionally, there is a benefit to this extremely open design. Simply, this chair has phenomenal ventilation. This keeps your body cool, minimizes sweating, and thus keeps you as comfortable as possible. Even better, the chair is 93 percent recyclable, which means it’s not just excellent for you, but also for the environment.
We were pleasantly pleased by the breadth of available customization possibilities. The entry-level model retails for roughly $500, and there are various optional upgrades available. With eight different color options and additional options for the upholstery, you’re spoiled for choice.
Sayl by Herman Miller – Design and Specifications
The Herman Miller Sayl is one of the quirky and downright odd-looking chairs available, save a few of the most ridiculous gaming chairs (see benefits). It was created by renowned industrial designer Yves Béhar, who was inspired by San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. The Sayl office chair was created as a result of Béhar wondering if similar ideas could be used for a chair.

|Back||3D Intelligent elastomer|
The usage of a web-like framework made of tens of thousands of interlocking elastomer strands gives it its amazing appearance. These threads provide the chair elasticity so that it can swell and curve when you sit down. The form allows your spine to keep its natural “S” shape while providing extra support where it is required. Greater comfort is encouraged by this design, which also does away with the need for additional lumbar support.
In addition, the design uses a lot fewer materials, which brings down the cost. Although it costs $725, it is less than half as expensive as some of Herman Miller’s top products, like the Embody ($1,495) and Aeron ($1,445). Although Herman Miller is still significantly more expensive than many highly regarded gaming chairs, the majority of its rivals cannot compare to the build quality of this product. But gaming seats do have some ergonomic benefits, such as rapid reclining and taller backrests. But the way it’s made can potentially make you slouch. In general, it is not advised to use neck pillows on headrests while seated, and frequently, their “lumbar support” is just a branded cushion of dramatically varied quality.
Sayl by Herman Miller – Performance
The complete series of gaming chairs from Herman Miller is peculiar by nature. With the removal of numerous customizability options, the addition of almost no functionalities, and the promotion of the chairs as “gaming seats,” the design-focused business took its best-looking chairs and (probably) made them worse. As a result, its product fits strangely. The not-so-subtle color schemes available here may turn off discriminating consumers searching for a high-end office chair for gaming, but those who appreciate gamer aesthetics are not compelled to spend $750 on a chair.
Does this matter, though?
The chairs Herman Miller makes are amazing. I sit in an Aeron every day, and I think it’s one of the coziest seats I’ve ever sat in. That joy is due to gamers as well.
The Sayl is entirely self-sufficient. Herman Miller provides chairs that are fully assembled and prepared to be rolled out of their enormous boxes and onto your desk. I was pleased to discover how easily the Sayl integrated into my minimalist setup because I believe the appearance of the majority of gaming chairs to be embarrassing. The other colors would look fantastic next to the RGB light of a monster battle station for those looking for a more overt appearance.
I was pleased with the Sayl’s comfort after adjusting the height, seat depth, and lean tension, but not astonished. Numerous awards, including Product Design of the Year from the 2010 International Design Awards jury, have been given to the Sayl chair. After sitting in it, I see why.
Even after spending hours in a chair, I never experienced any back issues (except, unsurprisingly, after testing the tilt away from the desk). I never experienced any lumbar issues, despite the chair not offering as much lumbar support as the Embody or Aeron, which cost almost twice as much. (The Sayl’s original non-gaming form does include optional lumbar support if you’re prone to back fatigue or pain.)
The forward tilt allows you to lean toward your keyboard or display without hunching over (see gaming monitor reviews). The seat can only be flat or leaned forward; the tilt angle is not adjustable. Sadly, the forward tilt is very aggressive, making you feel as though you’re about to get up from your seat or that you’re bracing yourself against your desk to stop it. To aid with the discomfort, you may loosen up the back’s tension and lower the seat height so that your feet are firmly on the ground. However, I’d want to have a few more configuration tilt degrees to choose from.
Naturally, if you’re playing a game, the game isn’t finished until you’ve aced every challenge. Then it is what it is, whether it takes hours or days. But how can you expect to get that grade if you can’t even sit on this chair for an hour? Frequently, heat builds up while you sit in one place for a long time. Your chair will then start to feel as though it has been sitting in the sun for a long time.
For this reason, chairs must be properly equipped with base cushions that permit sufficient airflow. The Sayl chair by Herman Miller has excellent airflow, allowing you to sit for hours without even the slightest discomfort. The chair allows for the most ventilation possible because of the perforations in the back and pores in the seat base. This makes working on it for hours on end until the job is finished much more pleasant.
This modern chair’s remarkable Y-tower structure distinguishes it as a strong contender in the chair category. We’d award it a star for its strong support, superior structure, exceptional build quality, and eye-catching design. This chair meets the needs of a wide variety of people and offers practically everything you might want in a comfy seat.
The Sayl gaming chair by Herman Miller is an interesting piece of furniture. I like how elegant and unique-looking this chair is. However, even the most restrained options are wildly imaginative visually. Except for the vivid colors, the building materials are the same as those used in the normal Sayl. It is therefore a great choice for gamers searching for stylish seats, but it is unlikely to unify your office space.
Is the Herman Miller Sayl priced reasonably?
The Sayl is a well-made, highly adjustable chair that is provided by a reputable business in the sector.
If the price doesn’t put you off, it is suggested for anyone under 6′ tall who doesn’t mind a chair with a low seat back.
How to Clean Herman Miller Sayl chair?
With proper and regular care and maintenance, your Herman Miller Sayl Chair will give many years of superior performance and satisfaction. Wash the surface with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners are not advised to use.
How long will Herman Miller Sayl continue to exist?
A twelve-year warranty is included with the Herman Miller Sayl. That implies that if you purchase it today, it will expire in 2032 — the world will very certainly have changed by then, but your chair will remain the same.
Can the arms of a Sayl chair be removed?
The Sayl Chair by Herman Miller is available with or without arms. If the arms are removed from an armed chair, the 12-year warranty is voided, thus I recommend ordering it in the configuration in which you expect to use it.
